Archaeological examination of land (AE) is a special scientific research to identify historical and cultural heritage sites (archaeological sites) in the grounds located in construction areas of various industrial facilities – roads, oil and gas pipelines, FOTL etc.

AE is performed before the start of construction according to the Law of RK «On protection and use of historical and cultural heritage»*. AE is performed on the basis of a license to conduct archaeological and/or research and restoration works according to the standard in Kazakhstan «Methodology of the archaeological examination of land». The result of AE is the complete and significant Archaeological examination conclusion confirming the presence or absence of archaeological sites on the studied area. If sites found, the Conclusion contains recommendations on protection measures in relation to these sites.

In the period of 2013-2017 the “Archaeological expedition” performed a number of archaeological examinations in Almaty, Akmola, Aktobe, Atyrau, Mangystau, Zhambyl, South Kazakhstan, Karaganda, Kyzylorda, East Kazakhstan, West Kazakhstan, North Kazakhstan regions for various projects of construction and reconstruction of roads, gas pipelines and oil refineries, construction of FOTL.

Paragraph1.By development of areas the research works shall be performed prior to land allocation, in order to determine sites of historical and cultural heritage. Paragraph 3.Works that could endanger the existence of sites of historical and cultural heritage are forbidden. Paragraph2. In the event of detection sites of historical, scientific, artistic and other cultural heritage the individuals and legal entities must stop their works and inform the competent authority.
